Visiting the Heart of Leathercraft: Tandy Leather Headquarters, Fort Worth

There are certain places that feel like a pilgrimage when you work with your hands. For leatherworkers, Tandy Leather Headquarters in Fort Worth, Texas is one of them.

In November after an event Pop up I was invited to visit and do some content work for Black Friday with the Tandy Leather team at their new headquarters.

Walking through the doors, you immediately feel it—the history, the craftsmanship, the quiet hum of makers past and present. This isn’t just a store or a corporate office. It’s a cornerstone of American leathercraft.

As a leatherworker and the founder of LovLeathers, visiting Tandy’s headquarters felt like stepping into the roots of the trade that has shaped my work and my business.

A Legacy You Can Feel

Tandy Leather has been supporting makers for over a century, and that legacy is woven into every corner of the building. From the smell of raw hides to the sight of tools that have been used by generations of craftspeople, the space carries a deep respect for the art of leatherwork.

It’s grounding to stand in a place that reminds you this craft didn’t start with trends or algorithms—it started with necessity, skill, and pride in doing things well.

You’re surrounded by hides from all over the world, each with its own character, grain, and story. It’s a reminder that leather is alive in its own way—no two pieces ever truly the same. That philosophy mirrors how I approach every LovLeathers bag: honoring the hide, not forcing it.

Inspiration at Every Turn

One of the most inspiring parts of visiting Tandy HQ is seeing how much they invest in education and community. Leathercraft classes, demonstrations, and workshops are not an afterthought—they’re central to the mission.

Watching new makers learn to cut, stamp, dye, and stitch reminded me why I fell in love with this work in the first place. There’s something powerful about slowing down, working with your hands, and creating something tangible in a fast-moving world.

It reinforced something I deeply believe: craftsmanship isn’t about perfection, it’s about intention.

Where Tradition Meets Modern Craft

Tandy does an incredible job of honoring tradition while still supporting modern makers. From classic tools that haven’t changed in decades to new techniques and finishes that push the craft forward, the headquarters bridges old-school leatherwork with today’s creative businesses.

As someone who creates Western-inspired handbags with a modern edge, it was inspiring to see how those worlds coexist so naturally. It validated that you can respect tradition while still carving your own path.

Why Places Like This Matter

In an age of mass production and disposable goods, places like Tandy Leather Headquarters matter more than ever. They preserve knowledge. They support artisans. They remind us that quality takes time—and that time is worth it.

Leaving Fort Worth, I felt renewed. Reconnected to the roots of leathercraft. Recommitted to creating pieces that are meant to last, to be worn hard, loved deeply, and passed down.

Every LovLeathers bag carries that philosophy. And visiting Tandy HQ only strengthened my resolve to keep honoring the craft in everything I make.

If you ever get the chance to visit, go. Whether you’re a seasoned leatherworker or simply someone who appreciates well-made things, it’s a place that stays with you.

Because leather isn’t just a material—it’s a legacy.
